The adoption and implementation of the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine touching the decentralization will ensure economic development of the country and create new jobs, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman told the Espreso TV channel.

"These amendments will allow us to create normal, good jobs, to settle actual problems. We will be able to change the situation in the sectors of health care, education, etc. This is what people want from us. The basic position is to amend the Constitution," he said.

"According to him, thanks to the decentralization reform, the powers to effectively manage local self-government bodies will be passed to the local level. This is very important to allow people themselves, at the local level, to tackle the problems instead of waiting for assistance from the center," Groysman added.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada reminded that local self-government bodies had received resources to fulfill the tasks thanks to the financial decentralization. He said these funds have to be invested in creation of new jobs and in support of small and mid-sized businesses.

He said that the development of local economy will facilitate the restoration of the economic potential of Ukraine.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada reminded that the consultations as to the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine touching the decentralization are underway and expressed hope that the political forces would support respective decisions.

We have to create all conditions to allow consolidation of our statehood, restoration and development of democracy in our country. This will be impossible without local self-government, without activity of the people. Thus, the Constitution is an answer to precise, clear separation between our past and our future, Groysman said.
